04 Rebuilding car hauler hydraulic stabilizer frame mount flange. While waiting for the special metal to arrive, its time to cut out the temporary bracing so the proper rebuild of the frame can begin. Say hi to Isabella. Piece by piece the junk comes out. I want nothing left but good metal so I can attach new metal to it. The frame is filled with foam and leaky hydraulic fluid which might burn so hence the fire extinguisher. Don't you love her work boots? At least she isn't wearing high heels. Before we are done, we are going to open that rotten corner wide open. Guess I'm not a gentleman. I didn't ever help her carry the heavy things. Now its time for the precision cutting. We have to be careful that we leave the good metal and don't accidentally destroy it. Hey, at least today her shoes have laces. Some hammer and chisel action to peel up the almost cut free plates. She was good, she knew when to not cut too deep and change techniques. That corner has to be cut wide open with all the thin failing metal gone. I want nothing but thick and strong when I show up to weld. Once upon a time it was all thick and strong, but that was before the rust showed up and took over. The put foam inside the frame to stop the hydraulic hoses from bouncing around and chaffing, wearing out by rubbing on the frame. I think the foam held salt water from up north, inside causing accelerated corrosion. We have to get all the foam out, and other rust particles and flakes so it wont contaminate the weld that's about to rebuild the car carrier frame. A water Jet at 3,000 PSI does wonders. We are very thorough in the quality of the work we do. Clean metal welds much stronger than dirty metal. Below: Notice the crack in the lower frame rail. Clean as a whistle. Who invented that phrase and where did it come from? We use cardboard to create perfect fitting templates. Then we trace that pattern to the metal plate so we can cut it out exactly to the perfect fit we want. This way we create perfect fitting components one piece at a time. Its very slow work at this precision level. A perfect fitting component and a perfect weld, makes for a perfect repair. The weld will fill in gaps as large as a 1/4" and its a flawless seam when complete. What a peaceful calm setting we have for working within. That helps us do great work. Hey, that's me. Usually I'm behind the camera. Time to weld in the new hand made components which replaces the weak junk metal. Yes, she does weld. But this job was critical so I did it all. Isn't she cute in her welding outfit? You can see where strength is critical and mandatory, I use multiple passes and build up the metal deposited for a welded joint much larger & stronger than the parent metal it joins. We attach temporary handles to many of the plates we are welding onto this car hauler. It helps us hold the plates in perfect positioning for perfect welding. Without those handles, those plates are hard to hold in perfect location. 01 Before pictures of the damage.
